First raid week

Writer's picture: RutheRuthe

New week, and the first with new m+ affixes, and the opening of the Sepulcher raid. It was exciting with a new affix. I can use the new mobs to get a higher buff for my legendary so that I will do more damage to the boss.

It was fun in the new raid. We did 4/11 bosses on normal. The last boss we wiped on 1% 3 times I think. It was a very movement heavy fight, so not very ranged friendly. But I enjoyed it anyway.

First boss down on normal with the guild
Halondrus: Movement heavy but fun fight

Even though I enjoyed both the raid and the premade dungeons we did, the patch still don't spark joy for me. Right now, I think I'm playing the game just because I'm afraid to miss the progression. I feel that if I take a break now, I will be behind everyone for the rest of the patch. And my prediction is that this patch will be very very long.

This week I have played both demo and affliction. My verdict is that the specs are good for different things. But affliction is still my strong favorite of the two.

Affliction

Pros

  • More action, shorter cast times, more mobile and feels lighter to play

  • I enjoy both the single target and the seed aoe builds

  • Insane on trash with cooldowns up

  • Not the worst on heavy movement fights

  • Can get shards from explosives. If things gets heavy, can insta kill explosives with corruption.

  • I perform best with this spec in dungeons

Cons

  • Low single target damage

  • Very bad on target swapping, due to very long ramp up time (except for seed build)

  • Not very good on fights with mostly single target and a few adds since you do no aoe damage at all if you spec for st

  • Cannot cancel your dots if you dot something you shouldn't. Like mobs that should be cc-ed, and bad at handling bursting

  • It's hard reading that your favourite spec is in the "swamp ass tier". That automatically makes it feel worse, even if it is not. It even states in the wowhead affliction guide that you should play demo instead of affliction in single target fights.

My current use

  • Dungeons

  • Raid bosses with lots of movement

Demo

Pros

  • OK on single target fights

  • A solid solo spec. Can survive a lot by using the demon right.

  • Good on single target with some aoe

  • Rules in the new Torghast boss mode thingy

  • Gets very good powers in Torghast

  • Is supposed to get very good tier sets, so looking forward to that

Cons

  • Demo feels slow and heavy, and those hand of gul'dan cast noises makes my head hurt.

  • I'm still learning to play the spec, so I don't perform well yet. Requires a lot of concentration to play a new-ish spec, so I am worse at mechanics when playing it.

  • Looses a lot of damage if you have to do mechanics when building up demons for your tyrant

  • Really bad at handling explosives

My current use

  • ST raid bosses and raid bosses with some aoe

  • Soloing elites

  • Torghast
