The Esmënet Opener (SL s4)

anasurimbor1000

After two resets of only playing Esmënet the Hunter, I thought it was only right and proper I started the new season playing that character. As it's the first time since BFA release I have stuck to pretty much one character for keys I should keep doing that.

So far I have done 19 keys. Started with +2s, and have gradually learned how things work in the different dungeons. +8 yard is my current highest, lowest is a +5 docks. The scaling is all over the place in the dungeons, and so is the raid it would seem.

First impression of current season dungeons

The easy ones

Mechagon Yard

Mechagon Shop

Tazavesh Streets

Tazavesh Gambit

The Mechagon ones just seems to be tuned in a way that makes you have time and packs less of a punch. The pugs I have been there with have been horrible at mechanics, have wiped and still had time left. The Yard bots seems to scale with key level again, that reeks of upcoming nerf.

The Tazavesh ones people generally seem to know and after multiple nerfs it's scaled on the easier side. So better results than the Mechagons since people know them by now.

Neither of these sets are what I would call "fun" however.

The middle ones

Iron Docks

Grimrail Depot

Both of these seems to have ok tuning, and the bosses aren't very weird (except second Grimrail boss), so most of the issues comes from someone just not doing the mechanics repeatedly.

These are the least interesting dungeons to me this season, in spite of being old and not remembering much. Boring trash, boring bosses. Grimrail on top having the most dull AND annoying layout of all the dungeons in the game too.

The hard ones

Karazhan Upper

Karazhan Lower

The tuning of these are.... weird. People seem to grok the mechanics in Upper faster (so not really had horrible runs there), but Lower a lot of people struggle with. It's a lot of "do x at once or die" kinda stuff, which might have been a Legion thing? There's a lot of autoattacks and just high damage so sometimes tanks dissapear without any mechanics going off, and in spite of them overgearing the place a lot.

These have been fairly fun, mostly because they are "new" to me. Never did Upper m+ in Legion, and did a +3 or something in Lower once. Some trash do some interesting things but without mechanics bloat, there's routing possibilities in lower, there's atmosphere and generally feel more inspired than the other dungeons.

Thoughts on season systems

Starting with set bonus is nice. Starting with double legendary is nice. Uncapped valor and no week 1 ilevel cap from dungeons is super nice. The idea about raid loot on vendor in limited forms is a good idea, but I haven't dealt with it yet.

The m+ season affix is a bit boring, but at least it isn't that intrusive. And no Wo chaos this time around.

Season plans

I am both on and off the hamster wheel. Do not really have any gearing goals, or ideas about what characters I will play or anything. So bit light on goals and plans, but there are some.

Hamster wheel goals

288+ gear in all slots on Esmënet before season ends.

Less dungeons done than last season.

Broad goals

Learn the season dungeons properly.

Stop touching the electric TH fence, and avoid as much in game contactas possible to lessen friction.

Try not tanking for a season.

PROPERLY clear bags before next expansion.

Give it a shot goals

Pet battles.

Give the endless corridors thing another go.

Try joining a Fated guild raid on Esmënet.

Try Wrath classic.

Hopefully get DF beta access to test classes before expansion release.

I will try to keep a tally on dungeons done, to see how many dungeons it will take to get the gear on Esmënet, and when I should pull the breaks. I know there will be some weeks coming up with no or just a couple of dungeons, so it's not like I will do 20/week standard....
