Shadowlands Season 3 Week 12: Science

anasurimbor1000

This week had the last set of the affix rotation: Fortified - Sanguine - Grievous - Encrypted. This is one of those really good weeks "in theory". It can be good, or you can be in a group with a shaman, a balance druid with treants and a frost mage.

My goal I decided on last week, which was to compete against myself across factions, lacked the goal posts. I did not do any keys on alliance last week, so the posts never moved however.

So start of week:

Wutteät: 2537.

Dominator: 2456.

End of week:

Wutteät: 2537.

Dominator: 2470. (+14)

And the theory I have when it comes to the score stuff is that most of the score one can get just comes from having a lot of time to simply do a lot of keys that can give you score. If that's all you do, there is no way doing guild vaults, someone farming one dungeon like crazy for loot, boosting each other and all that stuff you do in a guild. Gear is also not that big of a factor; a bit more main stat between say 272 and 274 is not going to make you time a 20 over an 18 if thats the only change. One hits a gear wall at one point and have to play better, smarter, faster. Or get people in your group that does it for you, that seems modern gaming in a nutshell.

Viator the Darkener

At some point the habit of transmoging when getting a gear piece broke through, and ruined the idea of just using gear I got to find out what I would look like.

I wished for a trinket from the vault, but did not get one. However, the legs were a massive upgrade as I had pvp legs that I couldn't upgrade. To the point I took it over the 272 weapon with good stats...

However, the dungeon runs proved to provide what the vault didn't. It was one of those ketchup weeks I have every season where I can't help but get massive upgrades, like the scale in this run. After this week, the only piece I have that I can't upgrade are shoulders. As I currently need 16 400 valor to upgrade all my stuff (before getting shoulders and a passive dps trinket), some vault items and 262 drops to cut down on the 82+ dungeons needed would be idea... :)

Addendum: After posting I got shoulders in a late reset dungeon, so technically I have all the drops I need for getting decently geared. The required valor however went up by 1600 to 18 000, so yeah....

Now "just" 215 score behind Dominator. Looking at the affixes, next week I do not want to play much and rather have a break from puging - it's Tyrannical - Bolstering - Explosive. The two weeks after that I am going to try to squeeze out 15s and 16s, and go higher if gear has gotten past 270.

Keystones this week

First +15 was a Sanguine Depths. It was a bit hairy. I love resto druids, but on grievous with dps that stands in everything things can just spiral out of control very fast for them. I did this on Dominator that had 10 iLevels on Viator too, with a resto healer, and they had the same problem so the old growl designation of the affix that if you can live it is good still holds.

Next reset

Hoping for shoulders, a passive dps trinket or something that cuts down on valor costs from vault/dungeons. Just do easy keys, 11-12-13 to fish for some gear but no big score reset.

Ghoset the Astral Walker

Not sure current look feels very Demon Hunterish... :)

I wanted tier or potential tier from the vault and the vault provided. I picked shoulders because I think they had versa so would be better to upgrade than the gloves that comes with mastery. And I had a chest albeit at lower iLevel. So that gave me 2-piece at the start of the week.

DOS did not provide this character with a Scale, but got legs. Could then buy gloves with Relics, and upgrade both to have 4-piece. This also made me scrap the Vengeance legendary I have used since like week 2 of season 1, and change my spec that I've had in the same time frame.

This increased my overall by a bit, mostly through aoe. The important change is that between the 4-set, the Darkglare Medallion, the Demonic talent and Uhr is that the Meta uptime goes up by a massive amount. Can now do bear pulls, but on a much more frequent basis. It also changes playstyle more than anticipated, so this set was actually a breath of fresh air!

Score difference to Wutteät was reduced, pretty easy since I am not currently doing keys on that one. 1050 score behind is a big hurdle still however. But never getting into Streets keys is a problem, every one I got into had the bug where it was listed as Streets but was actually Gambit. If that could be solved, like getting my own Streets key, it would cut the score difference by a lot.

Keystones this week

Was plagued by people randomly leaving this week. In this key, the hunter was just playing normally until first boss was dead and then straight alt-f4ed. It's only an 8, so we timed it anyway even with 2 not that great spriests as only dps.

The same happened in the key after, a +10 spires. First boss died and then did the pull on the left, we walked to the other side, the hunter just left group and HSed. Not a word, things had been going smooth. In this key, people did not want to 4-man. I get that people leave if a key is going badly or people are being toxic or whatever and not say a word. But having time to finish a pull, and then just finding out you couldn't be arsed to do more? Just puzzling.

At this point, anything that isn't a neck or shoulders should be an upgrade. Will not do a lot of keys so need a bit of luck for progress on gear and score. Gonna do 8-9-10-11-12 keys I think.

Dominator

So I joined a new guild, House of Small Gods, this week. For the first time in my WoW-life I have been VERY mindful of the impression I am trying to give instead of just playing. I straight out said I did not want to raid in my guild app, have confirmed that in guild chat. Tried to join the relaxed keys that came up. Contributed to green text. And made some puns to see if I would get shot. So far my impression has been pretty good. I am more relaxed there than I was in TH or when I am alone with the trying to play on horde ordeal.

Did my first guild key and remembered to take screenshots. I could do some experiments, nobody was making "observations", people were generally happy, it was all good. So so far I am happy I took the step to change scenery.

Another thing I did that was uncharacteristic was that I whispered people on my friends list some time after I left in case I had left people puzzled. Some understood my point, some have not. Which wasn't that surprising. Feel like some bridges have been burned, while others have not. Perhaps there will be some old groups again in Dragonflight, or it might not.
